The tie up between Microsoft and Yahoo to fight Google in the “Search sphere” is just about a month old. And now there is news about a tie up between three giants Microsoft, Yahoo and Amazon to take on Google’s Book Deal.  Google plans to make digital copies of as many printed books as possible, for this it has tied up with several authors and publications. If the deal goes though, Google plans to offer free access to some books through its search engine and sell others as part of a registry that will share revenue with authors and publishers if the class-action settlement is approved.

Now Microsoft, Yahoo and Amazon has expressed intention to join a group to be called the Open Book Alliance, which is being put together by the Internet Archive, a longtime critic of Google’s digital book plans. The group plans to rally opposition to Google’s digital book ambitions and ultimately persuade a federal judge to block or revise the Internet search leader’s plans. The class-action settlement that would expand Google’s digital library is scheduled to be reviewed in an Oct. 7 court hearing.

It is understandable for Amazon to take such a step as it would be the one which is most impacted by this deal, since it’s the largest seller of online book. Also, Google digital book plan will effect ‘Kindle‘ , its eBook reader. But for Microsoft and Yahoo to jump into the band wagon is something I am not able to figure out. Is Microsoft becoming George Bush  of corporate world and Yahoo Tony Blair.
